Introduction
 

The introduction will provide the reader with details regarding the purpose behind your association’s need to initiate the lake planning process, its scope, your planning approach, recognition of information sources and partnership support, and a brief history about your lake association, the status of its membership, and its mandate. Section 2
Vision, Principle and Targets
 

Section 2 provides guidance on what the lake should look like in the future, the principles and criteria that will guide the development of your lake plan, and the specific objectives to accomplish your goal of a healthy environment and quality of life on the lake. The information in this section will be captured during the various workshops, surveys and meetings, and documented by the steering committee and confirmed with the members of the association and the community.

Section 3
Lake Description
 

The lake description includes information regarding: location and physical characteristics of your lake; watershed size—drainage area; water levels (management and location of existing dams) and water and land access and ownership (Crown vs. private land); and historical development—the cultural and economic history of your lake’s community. Section 4
Social Elements
 

This section should feature the social elements, such as cultural and historical sites, which contribute to the quality of life on a lake. Natural Heritage Features and Areas

Land Use
 

The purpose of this section is to provide a summary of the current and past land uses around the lake and within the watershed, and to provide a review of the federal (Trent-Severn Waterways, Parks Canada) and provincial policies for Crown land use regulations (Public Lands Act, Ontario Living Legacy) and the municipal Official Plan policies and Zoning By-laws provisions for private land, including residential occupancy and septic systems. Lake Values and Concerns
 

The purpose of this section is to report on the features and elements of the lake that are most valued by the residents, commercial operators and recreationalists.
