Everything needed to Prepare Lake Plans and more!

What Will Your Lake Plan Look Like?

The lake planning process will result in the development of three documents: 1) the background information report; 2) the lake plan; and 3) the executive summary.

Ontario is the “land of lakes”

BACKGROUND REPORT

The background report is an “unpolished”, on-going compilation of relevant information collected throughout the lake planning process, which consolidates all the existing information describing the natural, physical, social and land use characteristics, issues, values and recommended action plan solutions collected from your research, workshops, surveys and meetings.

LAKE PLAN

The lake plan is the “polished”, finished product, which is a synopsis of the relevant and verified collected information and includes a summary of your community’s accomplishments, environmental and social recommendations, and future endeavours.

The lake plan document also highlights and confirms all relevant observations (issues or problems impacting lake values) from the collected information to develop recommendations or strategies to deal with these issues, which is critical to the overall success of your lake plan. The steering committee is responsible for summarizing the observed issues (i.e., observations) and designing recommendations (i.e., solutions) for each subsection from the Lake Description, Social Elements, Natural Heritage, Physical Elements and Land Use Sections of your lake plan.

The steering committee will consolidate the observations and recommendations from the other sections into Section 9 and create the action plan, including objectives, tasks and schedule, based upon the relevant issues and their solutions for your lake. Many of your recommendations may overlap with other issues within other sections of the lake plan and, therefore, one action may have the potential of resolving many issues at once. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The executive summary provides a brief analysis and summary of the important background information—the relevant observations, and recommends specific land use policy and stewardship approaches for your community and its volunteers.
