Your Lake Plan
The content of your lake plan will depend on the direction set by the steering committee and the issues and values identified by shoreline residents and other stakeholders throughout the lake planning process. Generally, the lake plan will accomplish the following:
- Provide a vision statement and identify principles and targets to ensure the future health of the lake and its watershed;
- Identify all environmental, physical and social characteristics/features and values of your lake;
- Identify and portray lake character and neighbourhoods;
- Review water quality status and future trends, and identify sensitive features;
- Evaluate current land use policy and recommend amendments to improve the protection of the lake’s assets;
- Identify the issues and their causes and possible remedies;
- Prepare a list of actions and targets related to each recommendation to implement positive changes in the lake’s community, including land use controls and stewardship approaches; and
- Develop quantitative and qualitative indicators that will allow the lake association to track the progress and success of the lake plan.
